Committee Questions, Comments, Concerns

  • How did you go about determining the height and type of signage being proposed today?
  • Do you have any graphics to show what the digital display will showcase?
  • How tall is the sound wall? Would you consider something lower than 80'?
  • Concerned about the precedent approving this sign would make.
  • Consider a community sign with changeable text or possibly consider recreating the historic sign McPhillips used to have.
  • Consider possibly using a flat sign (like referenced as Sims Buick) instead of the triangular shaped sign as porposed.
  • Consider reaching out to the property owners across the street for a potential signage location.

Councilman Polensek is available to comment on the proposal.  The CM is in support, does not believe it will negatively effect the residential property owners or the Waterloo Arts District.

Sean McPhillips (owner) is available to comment on their proposal. Explained their history in the neighborhood, their efforts to speak with the surrounding residents to get support for their proposal.

Committee Questions, Comments, Concerns

  • Some support amongst the Committee if the Arts District is also promoted on the EMC.
  • Some concern that a sign of this size would set a precident for this district or others in the City.
  • Was there any consideration of only using a static sign without the EMC included in the current sign proposal?

Cynthia Brookins from Greater Collinwood Dev. Corp is also available to support the organizations support for the proposal.
